In 2018, during the Republican primary for governor of Wyoming, Matt Copeland, chief executive and editor of the nonprofit newsroom WyoFile, got a series of phone calls. They were from candidate Foster Friess, and often, he wasn’t happy. Friess was a right-wing mega donor turned political hopeful, endorsed by president Donald Trump. “He did not appreciate all of our coverage,” Copeland said.
