From a New York Times obit by Richard Sandomir headlined “Stephen M. Silverman, Biographer of Stage and Screen, Is Dead at 71”:
Stephen M. Silverman, a longtime entertainment reporter and author who wrote a critically admired biography of the notoriously reticent British director David Lean and a forthcoming book about the Broadway titan Stephen Sondheim, died in Manhattan.
Mr. Silverman was once asked what he felt was the most common misperception about his beat. “That it’s fluff,” he said.
