Smithsonian Names Founding Director of Latino Museum

From a Washington Post story by Peggy McGlone headlined “Smithsonian selects Miami museum leader as founding director of Latino Museum”

Jorge Zamanillo was an 18-year-old college student studying music when a solo trip to Washington — and visits to Smithsonian museums — changed his life.

“It sparked my interest in history and archaeology and anthropology, in the ‘who was here before’ story lines,” Zamanillo said. “I went to every museum I could. I was so taken aback by seeing real artifacts, the real thing. It was transformational.”
