From a story on realscreen.com by Barry Walsh headlined “PBS slates ‘The U.S. and the Holocaust’ from Ken Burns, Lynn Novick, Sarah Botstein”:
PBS has slated The U.S. and the Holocaust, the upcoming three-part series from filmmakers Ken Burns, Lynn Novick and Sarah Botstein, to premiere over three nights, beginning September 18.
The documentary will explore the rise of Hitler and Nazism in Germany in the context of global anti-Semitism and racism, the eugenics movement in the United States and race laws in the American South. Using first-person accounts from Holocaust survivors as well as interviews with leading historians and writers, the series, written by one of Burns’ longtime collaborators, Geoffrey Ward, examines what the U.S. government and American people knew about events unfolding in Europe, and what they did and didn’t do in response.
