Before she was an actor, singer, songwriter, rapper and best-selling author, Janelle Monáe was a “Goosebumps” enthusiast who dabbled in R.L. Stine-inspired fiction. “I was probably in elementary school going into middle school when I wrote this story about my grandmother being abducted by aliens,” she said in a phone interview planned around the final fitting of her gown for the Met Gala. “That was the first time my family was like, OK, you have a very strong, interesting, scary-at-times imagination.”
