From a story on axios.com by Andrew Solender headlined “Pelosi’s husband “violently assaulted” during home invasion”:
The big picture: The attack comes amid an uptick in threats against members of Congress and a series of security incidents over the summer.
Driving the news: Pelosi’s spokesperson Drew Hammill said in a statement, “Early this morning, an assailant broke into the Pelosi residence in San Francisco and violently assaulted Mr. Pelosi.”
“The assailant is in custody and the motivation for the attack is under investigation. Mr. Pelosi was taken to the hospital, where he is receiving excellent medical care and is expected to make a full recovery,” Hammill said.
He added that Pelosi was not in San Francisco at the time of the attack.
Details: The San Francisco Police confirmed the attack in a statement and said their officers responded at approximately 2:27am.
San Francisco Police Chief William Scott will address the media about the attack later Friday morning, the statement said.
The Capitol Police said in a statement they are investigating the attack jointly with the FBI and San Francisco Police. Special agents from the Capitol Police’s California Field Office “quickly arrived on scene,” they said.
What they’re saying: President Biden and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) both called the House speaker on Friday morning, according to statements from their offices.
“The President is praying for Paul Pelosi and for Speaker Pelosi’s whole family,” White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said. “He is also very glad that a full recovery is expected.”
