Latest News on the Russia-Ukraine War

From the Wall Street Journal:

Russia: President Vladimir Putin told his French and German counterparts that Moscow was open to resuming talks with Ukraine, but that the supply of Western weapons risked exacerbating the crisis, the Kremlin said.

Ukraine: Forces defending Severodonetsk—one of Ukraine’s last major strongholds in the eastern Luhansk region—might soon need to retreat from the city to avoid encirclement by Russian-backed troops, the region’s governor said.

In places like Bucha and Borodyanka, an influx of journalists and others seeking to document suspected Russian abuses has helped shed light on how the invading forces are treating civilians. But their work risks tainting evidence and undermining efforts to convict Russian soldiers for alleged war crimes.

The Biden administration is preparing to send the long-range rocket systems Kyiv says are necessary to fight off the Russian onslaught, officials said.

President Volodymyr Zelensky joined other senior Ukrainian officials in denouncing suggestions that Ukraine should cede territory to Russia in return for peace. War has shaped Ukraine’s political institutions at least since the aftermath of World War II, and it now looks certain to do so well into the future.
