Ukraine: Civilians who have been trapped for weeks in Mariupol and other Russian-occupied towns have been trickling into Ukrainian-controlled territory as Russia continues its offensive in Ukraine’s east and targets the strategic port city of Odessa.

A group of civilians from Mariupol, including around 150 who were trapped in the besieged Azovstal steel plant, arrived at a processing center in Zaporizhzhia on Tuesday.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, addressing The Wall Street Journal’s CEO Council Summit in London, said global companies have a critical role to play in isolating Russia and helping Ukraine restore its economy. He pledged attractive conditions for global companies to invest after the war ends.

Russia: Moscow resumed its wild claims about Jews, neo-Nazis and Ukraine, accusing Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid of making “antihistorical statements” when he said Jews didn’t murder themselves in the Holocaust.

Europe: Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi said the war in Ukraine has pushed the European Union into one of the biggest crises in its history. The European Union is proposing a phased-in embargo on Russian oil imports, the delisting of more Russian banks from the Swift payment messaging system and fresh sanctions targeted at people spreading disinformation about the war. Germany is stepping up deliveries of heavy weapons to Ukraine, a senior German official said. Pope Francis said the “barking of NATO at the door of Russia” may have led to the invasion of Ukraine.
