WaPo condemns “outrageous detention” of columnist

WaPo publisher Fred Ryan on Tuesday condemned the detention of Kremlin-critic Vladimir Kara-Murza. Kara-Murza, who has written dozens of columns for WaPo, was arrested after an interview in which he leveled harsh criticsm against Vladimir Putin’sgovernment aired on CNN+. Radio Free Europe reported that he was sentenced to 15 days in prison for supposedly disobeying police.

“Following poisonings and other grave threats, this outrageous detention is the latest move in Vladimir Putin’s ongoing effort to silence Kara-Murza and hide the truth about the atrocities Putin is committing in the Russian people’s name,” Ryan said in a statement. “No one should be deceived by the Russian government’s trumped-up charges and smears, and Kara-Murza should be released immediately.

German outlet hires Russian journalist after anti-war TV protest

“Russian TV journalist Marina Ovsyannikova has been hired by the German media company Die Welt, a month after she drew worldwide attention for bursting onto the set of a live broadcast on Russian state television to protest the war in Ukraine,” WaPo’s Kim Bellware and Andrew Jeong reported Tuesday.
