Those Who Fail to Learn From History…

Thomas Polgar was the last CIA station chief in Saigon during the Vietnam war. His last cable to the agency from Saigon shortly after midnight on April 30, 1975, became legendary in CIA lore.

“This will be the final message from Saigon station. It has been a long fight and we have lost it.…Those who fail to learn from history are forced to repeat it. Let us hope that we will not have another Vietnam experience and that we have learned our lesson. Saigon signing off.”

    We lost Warren Vietnam in the summer of 1963. Through gross errors and miscalculations and a complete misunderstanding of the Vietnamese people We created a situation where we backed a Catholic minority against an 80% majority of the population who were Buddhist.
