Twain Startles London
June 21, 1907. The iconic author Mark Twain created a stir on the streets of London by walking out of his hotel in a bathrobe and slippers “with about three inches of bare legs showing,” The Times reported. “The manager of the hotel was aghast…but didn’t make a fuss. His feeling was that a great man like Mark Twain must be allowed to do as he pleases.” Twain, 71, headed to a nearby bathhouse before returning to his hotel. “I simply wanted to take a bath,” he explained.
