Some news-related items from a Gene Weingarten column, “Trump goes to the movies,” in the Washington Post Magazine:
In an acerbic message to recalcitrant U.S. governors, Donald Trump in April tweeted that he loved the movie “Mutiny on the Bounty” because mutinies are “exciting and invigorating … especially when the mutineers need so much from the Captain.”. . .
With a little help from friends, here are some other movies as Trump might see them.
“A Few Good Men”: A great movie about how you can’t handle the truth. That’s why I am the greatest president. I give you only what you can handle.
“The Wizard of Oz”: The story of a wise and great and powerful man who runs a whole country because people are afraid of him, and everyone is happy all the time, and that’s when you turn it off because the rest is Fake News.
“You’ve Got Mail”: Showed us how unimportant the corrupt U.S. Postal Service has become. No need to do anything by snail mail anymore, such as voting.
“The Graduate”: The most important movie of my life. You losers out there missed its whole point. I invested in plastics. Also taught me that guys are always better off with the younger, hotter chicks.
“Dick”: This is the uplifting story of an American hero, like me. A lot of people even call me by his name.
“Network”: TV newsman gets shot because of bad ratings! If only.
I think Trump already admitted that he meant “Moby Dick” and that he was a shoo-in for the part of the dick.
