J.D. Salinger is still a mystery-wrapped enigma, even after a 698-page biography. Just as he apparently intended, the reclusive author of Catcher in the Rye is still a cultish mystery figure, even with a new biography based on 200 interviews and nine years of research and filled with speculation. But we’re apparently destined to have more of his stuff, previously unpublished, reports New York Times critic Michiko Kakutani in this August 26 review.
